Why do I need to use an orinal or bedpan?

You may need an orinal or bedpan because of your inability to walk to the bathroom.

An illness, injury, or surgery are some of the reasons that keep you from walking.

It is very important to perform your bowel movements and urinate regularly, as long as you have to stay in bed.

This helps prevent other health problems.

Paramedics must respond quickly to these needs of the patient in bed.

This is because, often, the time between urgency and evacuation is very short.

Some claim that the French took the word bidet from the French name of a small horse or pony for children or ladies. It is called a bidet because the French thought that it resembled that of a pony.

The purpose of the bidet was to cleanse the private areas.

At the time most people only bathed about once a week.

The bidet is a method for personal cleaning that uses a stream of water instead of toilet paper that can be irritating and damaging to those who may have bowel problems.

The imaginative ways readers use bidets:

A recent Magazine article about bidets prompted readers to email us with stories of how they use the bathroom fixture.

That the Anglo-Saxons love to hate.

In the original piece, British journalist Dany Mitzman explained how she was converted to bidets after moving to Italy – and she mentioned that Italians were not amused by visitors who used them incorrectly.

Skin Care & Incontinence

People who have problems controlling their urine or stools (called incontinence) are at risk of skin problems around the buttocks, hips, genitals, and the area between the pelvis and rectum (perineum).

These areas make problems such as redness, flaking, irritation and candidiasis likely.

What is urinary incontinence?

Urinary incontinence is the loss of bladder control. This means that you can not always control your urine.

Urinary incontinence can range from losing a small amount of urine (like coughing or laughing) to having a very strong urge to urinate that is difficult to control.

This can be embarrassing; Talk to your doctor about it.

You may receive treatment.
